Method

These crispy cinnamon sugar apple chips make a delicious snack that's easy to prepare and naturally sweet. Perfect for lunchboxes, healthy snacking, or a light dessert.

1. Prepare the oven

Preheat the oven to 110°C fan (or 120°C conventional). Line 2 baking trays with baking paper.

2. Slice the apples

Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Using a sharp knife or mandoline, slice the apples into very thin rounds, approximately 2-3mm thick. Remove any seeds as you slice.

3. Make the cinnamon sugar

In a small bowl, combine:

1tbsp granulated sugar
1tsp ground cinnamon

Mix well until evenly blended.

4. Arrange the apple slices

Lay the apple slices in a single layer on the prepared baking trays. Ensure the slices do not overlap.

5. Add the topping

Lightly sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over both sides of the apple slices.

6. Bake

Bake for 1 hour, then carefully flip the apple slices over.

7. Continue baking

Bake for a further 1 to 1½ hours, or until the apples are dry and lightly crisp around the edges.

8. Cool completely

Remove the trays from the oven and allow the apple chips to cool completely on the trays. They will become crispier as they cool.

9. Serve

Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

Tips

Fuji, Gala, Honeycrisp, and Pink Lady apples work particularly well.
For extra flavour, add ¼tsp nutmeg to the cinnamon sugar mixture.
If the chips soften during storage, place them back in a 110°C oven for 10-15 minutes to re-crisp.
