Recipe Ingredients

  • 225g soft margarine
  • 175g caster sugar
  • 225g black treacle
  • 275g self raising flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp mixed spice
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 tblsp milk
  • icing sugar

Recipe Instructions

1. Pre heat oven to 180C/Gas 4.
2. Grease and base line a 30 x 23 cm roasting tin.
3. Measure all the ingredients into a large bowl and beat for about 2 minutes.
4. Turn the mixture into the prepared tin and level.
5. Bake in the pre heated oven for about 40 minutes or until the cake has shrunk from the sides of the tin and springs back when pressed in the centre.
6. Leave to cool in the tin.
7. Dust with sifted icing sugar to serve.
