Apple sauce

A smooth or chunky purée of cooked apples, sweet or unsweetened, served as a side with pork, or used in baking to add moisture.

Use unsweetened apple sauce as a lower-fat substitute for some of the butter or oil in a cake recipe, adjusting sugar slightly if needed.
